Aubrey Meyer Farb (1922-2020) was a member of Rice University’s Class of 1942 and was inducted to Phi Beta Kappa as a junior in 1941. Mr. Farb was an ardent supporter of Rice’s PBK chapter and endowed a fund at Rice to support a Phi Beta Kappa award for both an early career instructor and an outstanding senior. His commitment extended to the greater PBK community; Aubrey served as the national chairman of the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association and on the scholarship committee of the Houston PBK Alumni Association.

Mr. Farb was born in Galveston, Texas, on September 26, 1922, the oldest son of Sophia Meyer Farb and Jacob L. Farb. He was a brilliant student who graduated from San Jacinto HS at age 16. After his graduation from Rice with a degree in liberal arts, Aubrey was selected for the Navy’s Japanese Language School at the University of Colorado and was commissioned in WWII as a Japanese language officer stationed at Guam and Iwo Jima.

Mr. Farb earned a master’s degree in accounting from Columbia University, after which he founded the Farb, Miller, & Beerman accounting firm, taught accounting at both Rice and the University of Houston, and served as a director of the Texas Society of CPAs. After retiring as an accountant, Aubrey founded two travel agencies and worked as a real estate developer and financial investor. He was also very involved in charitable activities in Houston: A fund that he and his wife Sylvia established at their synagogue has helped support hundreds of non-profits and grass-roots programs throughout the city.

Mr. Farb is survived by Sylvia, their four daughters, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Our chapter will miss his unwavering support and commitment to excellence.
